Vendor Highlight: CK Entertainment

Looking to book a DJ for your upcoming wedding? Chuck with CK Entertainment has some great advice for you, and questions you should ask your DJ before booking. Your DJ sets the whole mood for your wedding - so it is important to book the perfect DJ for you.

1)      What inspired you to become a DJ?

My Dad owned Charleston Entertainment in Charleston, SC.  His company used to provide clowns, magicians, DJ, bounce houses, and casino tables.  I started working for him and gravitated to the DJ part of the business.  Being able to help bride and grooms have a wedding reception to remember forever is extremely rewarding.

2)      How long have you been in business?

CK Entertainment started business in 2000.  We continue to work hard to stay relevant with music and wedding trends.  Over the years, weddings have changed tremendously.  They no longer follow your parent’s traditions and bride’s love to put a personal spin on things.  It really creates fun memorable events.

 3)      What have been the top 5 most popular first dance songs?

Last year CK Entertainment performed at 60 weddings.  I personally was the DJ for 24 of them.  There was only 1 song that repeated as first dance for my weddings.  It was Chris Stapleton – Joy Of My Life.  Of 24 weddings, I had 21 different first dance songs!  This goes back to my earlier answer of changes in the wedding industry.  Bride and Grooms are really putting their personal stamp on their reception and it is awesome.  One of my favorite first dance songs was The Cadillac Three – White Lighting.  It just fit the personality of the bride and groom so well.  Everyone loved the dance.  Here are a few of the other first dance songs from 2022:

Charlie Wilson – Smile For Me

Scotty McCreey – This Is It

Louis The Child – World On Fire

Dante’ Bowe – Darlin’

Gerry Rafferty – Right Down The Line

Etta James – At Last

 4)       What is your favorite part about being a DJ?

Not to sound egotistical but my favorite part of the night is when a B&G or random guest comes up and tells me this was the best night ever.  That feeling of pride knowing that you worked hard with all their vendors to create a magical night is special and very rewarding.

5)      Do you have any tips for couples when selecting songs for the ceremony and special songs for the reception?

Biggest advice I can give is do it together and have some fun with it.  Sit at home one night, get a glass of your favorite beverage and listen to music together.  It the song makes you dance, laugh, or stir emotions it is a great choice.

6)      Any frequently asked questions couples often ask you?

The most frequent question is what time will we arrive?  We like to be on site at least 2 hours before the event start time.  This gives us plenty of time to set up, sound check microphones, and get dressed for the event.  It also allows us time to meet your other vendors and sync up with them for specific details.

7)      What are good questions for couples to ask when booking a DJ?

When you are deciding on a DJ company always ask:

 a.      Do you bring back up equipment?

b.      Who will be my DJ?  How long have they been a wedding DJ?

c.       Do you take song requests?

8)      How far will you travel for a wedding or event?

Our normal coverage area is from Wilmington to the Outer Banks, but we absolutely love to travel for weddings.  It gives us a chance to see new venues and meet new people.  We have played at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Club, Biltmore Estate, Charleston, SC, Raleigh, and Greensboro.

9)      Anything else you would like to add?

Early in the reception make time to talk with all your guests.  This gives you time later in the evening to relax, dance, and have fun.

Chuck with CK Entertainment is an amazing DJ! My husband and I actually booked Chuck for our wedding back in 2020! He was amazing, kept the party going, and was so nice to work with. If you are in the New Bern or surrounding areas I highly recommend you book CK Entertainment for your wedding or special event. You can email him at chuck@ckentertainment.com to set up a consultation.
